Fall 2012

Fraunces Tavern® Museum, New York, NY



Collection/Curatorial intern (2 position available) 

SUMMER 2012 (8 – 24 hours per week)

Application Deadline: August 10th, 2012



Fraunces Tavern® Museum’s mission is to educate the public about New York City history as it relates to Colonial America, the Revolutionary War, and the Early Republic.  The Museum was founded in 1907 by Sons of the Revolution in the State of New York, Inc.  Housed in historic Fraunces Tavern, the permanent collection focuses on 18th and 19th century buildings, period rooms, prints, paintings, sculpture, decorative arts, and manuscripts relating to or reflecting aspects of early American culture and history.  Also included in the collection are items associated with the history of the Sons of the Revolution of the State of New York.



In order to better serve the community and fulfill the mission, the Museum has recently re-housed its collection.  Now that the Museum’s collection is in proper storage, a complete inventory of the collection must be completed.  Reporting to the Curator, intern’s duties will include:



1.	Collection Inventory

2.	Maintaining the Collection Database, PastPerfect 5.0

3.	Assist in exhibition installation

4.	Day-to-Day office operations



The internship will start in September of 2012 and end in December 2012.  It is unpaid.  No room and board available.



Qualifications:



Must be currently enrolled in undergraduate studies (history, politics, English, or similar) or graduate studies (museum studies, public history, education, American History or similar), or have completed either/or.  Intern should be detail oriented, patient, organized, and able to work independently.  Must be able to climb stairs and ladders.  A solid Early American, Colonial American and Revolutionary War history a plus.
