                  General Operating Support Application Deadline
                           Extended for Museums in
                                Disaster Areas

                Washington, DC Diane Frankel, director of the Institute
                of Museum and Library Services announced today that
                the deadline for General Operating Support applications
                would be extended to February 6, 1998 in Federally
                declared disaster areas.

                Applications from museums in the following counties will
                be accepted until February 6, 1998 (postmark deadline).

                Florida
                Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Lake, Orange, Osceola,
                Pasco, Polk, Sumter

                New York
                Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Jefferson, Lewis, St. Lawrence

                Tennessee
                Carter, Cumberland, Jackson, Johnson

                Maine
                Androscoggin, Cumberland, Franklin, Hancock,
                Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln, Oxford, Penobscot,
                Piscataquis, Sagadahoc, Somerset, Waldo, Washington,
                York

                New Hampshire
