We are currently seeking an individual to fill the position of Designer based in our Toronto office. The position is a one year contract with the possibility of full-time employment on successful completion of the contract.

Job Description

The objective of this role is to contribute to the development of project work as a Designer reporting to the Vice President, Exhibitions (or a designated person). A Designer is responsible for conceptualization and design of graphic and 3-D applications in consultation with colleagues and clients from concept to completion. Lord Cultural Resources is an international company which requires travel to meet clients and work on projects around the world. We expect that your time will be devoted to Project Work in Exhibitions (75%), Business Development, General Administration and Promotion (25%). 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

* Graphic and environmental design for external projects and clients;
* Concepts development and research (conducting interviews, and/or research by gathering and analyzing data and preparing synopses and summaries of studies, documents and interviews); 
* Brainstorming and mocking up design ideas; 
* Presenting ideas to team members and clients; 
* Meeting with team members and clients and adjusting designs to fit their needs;
* Tracking, organizing, and categorizing relevant material;
* Supporting colleagues on report and bid writing as required;
* Using computer software to execute designs; 
* Overseeing production of project deliverables including presentations; 
* Delivering project work on time and on budget;
* Promoting the Lord Cultural Resources brand, services, and products to prospective and existing clients;
* Developing proposal submissions, including writing, proofreading and delivery in collaboration with the Project Leader;
* Proofreading of materials;
* Assistance in planning and execution of office events and conferences, and, as needed, attendance at other promotional/cultivation opportunities such as openings;
* Participating in strategic planning and task groups to assist in improving Lord practice, market penetration, new products and new clients;
* Professional development that will further your personal knowledge and credibility, such as writing articles and speaking engagements; 
* Administrative tasks such as responding to information requests, research on museums and cultural Institutions, and completion of timesheets; and
* Other duties as required.

Qualifications

* Relevant post-secondary degree/diploma in Architecture and Design or
related discipline;
* Highly proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, Vectorworks, SketchUp or other design programs and MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook);
* Candidate must have practical experience in producing detailed design drawings;
* 1 to 3 years experience in exhibition design, architecture or related field would be ideal but not required;
* Knowledge of materials, fabrication and construction methods an asset;
* Proven written and oral communication skills in English (additional languages , such as Arabic, French, Spanish an asset);
* Cultural industry knowledge;
* Proven research experience;
* Strong analytical skills and design sensibility; 
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
* Familiarity with Lord Cultural Resources’ methodologies and/or willing to excel in them - The Manual of Museum Planning, 1991. 2nd Edition 1999, The Manual of Museum Management, 1997. 3rd Edition 2002, The Manual of Museum Exhibitions, 2001, The Manual of Strategic Planning, 2007, The Manual of Museum Education, 2007;
* Ability to work on a number of projects simultaneously and be well organized;
* Ability to work independently and in a team setting; and
* A genuine interest in the culture, museums and the arts.
