As a response to the question from J Golden at University of Iowa,
can I suggest that they contact The National Museum of Photography,
Film and Television, which is in Bradford, UK. They have a homepage
website on:
http://www.nmsi.ac.uk/nmpft/
which includes connections to advice on various aspects of
conservation (see "subjects").

In general, this is an excellent museum, with extensive experience of
all conservation and display of photo/film materials.
