The Cultural Resource Managment Program at the University of Victoria is
working with the University of Zagreb to offer a six-day symposium for
museum professionals in May 1998 at the InterUniversity Centre in Dubrovnik,
Croatia:

TOWARD A MUSEOLOGY OF RECONCILIATION
The Dubrovnik Inter-University Centre (IUC) in Croatia provides a unique
setting in which participants and scholars from the European and North
American museum communities will come together for six days to explore the
function and the role of museums before, during, and after times of armed
conflict.

Using the presentation techniques of symposium, seminar, and field school,
combined with study visits to local museums, historic sites, and monuments,
participants will focus on a range of topics, including the use of cultural
heritage to reconcile communities in conflict, and role of museum collections
in the development of a new consciousness for peace and security.

This course revives the International Museology Series which was offered at
the IUC over four summers, before being interrupted by war.
The re-establishment of the course has been encouraged by ICTOP, and features
keynote papers by distinguished museum professionals.

North American participants should register through the University of
Victoria on either a credit or non-credit basis. European participants should
apply through the University of Zagreb.

Instructors: Professor Martin Segger, University of Victoria, and Professor Ivo
Maroevic, University of Zagreb, will be joined by other distinguished resource
people

Dates: May 11 - 16, 1998
