Speaking as a Pole, and painting with an admittedly wide brush, I would say
that in fact I can imagine the Poles doing exactly such a thing. Polish
history is full of mad, romantic, unlikely gestures that have much to do
with honor and pride and little to do with practicality. Don't get me wrong,
I love my tribe, but I also have no illusions....
