About Kresge Art Museum: The Kresge Art Museum, which houses Michigan
State University's permanent art collection, was established in 1959. An
accredited institution, it houses a collection of over 5,500 works of art
in all media. As the only art museum in the mid-Michigan area, its mission
is to collect, document, preserve, exhibit and interpret works of art from
diverse cultures, from the past as well as the present. This mission
reflects Michigan State University's land-grant philosophy in which
instruction, research and public service are integrated to make the
institution an innovative, responsive public resource.

The museum's activities support and serve the academic as well as the
broader mid-Michigan community. The collection and an active schedule of
changing exhibitions (approximately 12 each year organized by the staff and
frequently loaned to other museums) enrich the university and k-12
curriculums, and promote the understanding and significance of varied
artistic cultures among a wide-ranging audience.

Kresge Art Museum is located in the Kresge Art Center, which it shares with
the Department of Art, situated along the banks of the Red Cedar River.
This facility also includes lecture rooms and studios, a student exhibition
space, and a visual resources library. The Museum and the Department of
Art collaborate to present the annual Undergraduate and MFA exhibitions and
the biennial Faculty exhibition. The MSU Museum and the Fine Arts Library
are other important on-campus resources.
