The best solution would be carpet tile, i.e., rubber or synthetic backed
carpet attached to the floor surface with glue. This permits you to remove
and reapply them if necessary and to replace worn sections without
recarpeting the whole. I've used them at two institutions and found the
investment to be worthwhile. Make sure you order from lines, patterns and
colors that have been in use for some time so that you stand less of a
chance of it being discontinued.

Be sure and get the heavy duty rubber-type backing -- not the light fibre
backing.

And make sure the installers leave the leftovers (specify this in the
contract). The less honest order far too much, haul it away at the end of
the job and then resell it.
