SELF-HELP GRAPHICS AND ART, INC. is a nationally acclaimed visual arts
institution in East Los Angeles that, for the past 30 years, has promoted
the rich contribution of Chicano art and culture to the American landscape.
Through a combination of events, exhibits, and workshops, it seeks to
celebrate the cultural identity, history and pride of the Chicano community
in Los Angeles, as well serve as a center for arts opportunity, training,
and creativity.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive
Director of Self-Help is responsible for the stewardship of the
organizations mission and vision and general oversight of all aspects of
organizational management including, but not limited to: project planning
and oversight; financial management and planning; staff management and
development; developing and implementing successful fundraising strategies;
and representing Self-Help to the community and maintaining collaborations
and partnerships.

QUALIFICATIONS: Requires strong leadership abilities: adeptness at
projecting the future of the organization and diligence in identifying and
mobilizing support and resources to achieve it; knowledge of visual arts
practices and training in an arts discipline; adaptable to a dynamic work
environment and able to creatively identify and capitalize on opportunities
to further the growth of the organization and its staff; excellent verbal
and written communication skills; a strong commitment to the organization
and it s vision; willing to travel and work extended hours and weekends as
needed. A Bachelors degree is necessary; a Masters or equivalent
experience is preferred. Access to dependable transportation is necessary.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. Financial
- Develop the annual budget, and upon approval by the Board, monitor
adherence to the budget.
- Approve and track income, expenditures and manage the organizations cash
flow.
- Ensure the preparation of accurate and timely financial reports to Board.
- Implement proper internal fiscal controls, policies and practices.
- Inform the Board of financial issues or concerns.
- Supervise contracts and other obligations.
- Oversee annual tax preparation and audit.

B. Administrative
- Develop procedures and implement board approved personnel policies.
Recruit, hire, train, motivate, develop, evaluate and monitor staff and
volunteers. Determine staff salaries. Ensure adherence to personnel
policies.
- Conduct activities in compliance with the law, regulation and ethical
standards. Keep board informed of all business transactions and alert the
Board if illegal or unethical issues might occur.


C. Resource Development
- Develop the organizations funding plan. Coordinate efforts of the Board
and staff in various fundraising activities.
- Work closely with Administrative Director in strategizing the approach to
funders, and budgets drafted by staff. Oversee the development of
proposals, including final polish editing.
- Identify individual major donors. Cultivate relationships, ask for
donations and ensure appropriate acknowledgment/recognition.
- Develop and strengthen relationships with all current, potential and past
funders/donors.
- Provide periodic progress reports to the Board.
- Oversight of grant compliance and monitoring.

D. Programmatic
- Draft the annual program plan, including goals and objectives,
strategies, timelines, budget and evaluation methods.
- Direct implementation of the program plan. Provide oversight and update,
modify, revise or extend the production and project activity schedule.
- Supervise program staff in carrying out the annual program plans. Assist
in problem solving.
- Keep abreast of developments in the field of Chicano Art, printmaking,
and Latino cultural institutions.
- Identify opportunities. Develop conceptual proposals for new programs,
including estimations of costs and benefits. Present to the Board for
consideration and approval.
- Present progress reports to the Board demonstrating program quality,
impact, and cost effectiveness.

E. Public Relations and Outreach
- Act as key representative of the organization to the community and its
leaders, the artistic field, board members, the general public, donorfs
prospective donors, and patrons through public speaking opportunities, and
participation on panels, in meetings, etc.
- Pro-actively foster community support and build credibility for and
knowledge of the organization and its programs.

F. Board
- Work in partnership with the Board to achieve goals and objectives.
- Communicate regularly with the Board chair on organizational issues and
Board meeting planning.
- Function as a liaison to the Board of Directors; provide support to Board
as requested.
