Sometimes just giving ribbons - blue, white and red - to identify "winners"
of certain categories is very encouraging to photographers.   We found that
this often seemed like a better award than a "prize."  The other thing we did
was to give a gift certificate to a photo shop - so that they could buy
equipment or supplies.
