Are you only interested in art museums? We use digital technology in
researching and interpreting White Mountain art, history and nature from a
historical farm museum perspective.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Graduate Student Research - Digital Technology,
Narrative, & Museums

> Hi,
>
> I'm a graduate student in the Digital Storytelling masters program at Ball
> State University in Muncie, Indiana. The Digital Storytelling program at
> Ball State is part of the Department of Telecommunications and focuses on
> both production and theory. Students and faculty are also highly
> interested in the affect of digital technology on the modern narrative.
>
> My specific interest is the role of digital technology in art museums.
> More specifically, I am interested in the affect of digital technology on
> the narrative of art museums. I believe that every art museum has a
> unique narrative, or story, that is influenced by the history, collection,
> administration, educators, programs, staff, and visitors, particular to a
> specific institution. I also believe that digital technology is affecting
> these narratives and as a result changing the very nature of art museums.
>
> I am currently conducting research on this topic and plan to start writing
> my thesis soon. I also have plans to conduct a survey of art museum
> professionals across the country. But before I continue further I want to
> ask all of you (the subscribers of the Museum-L email list) a few
> questions.
>
> 1. Do you think museums have narratives, or stories?
>
> 2. Do you think digital technology is changing the narrative and nature of
> museums?
>
> 3. Is there a need or interest in research of this kind?

> I understand that you all are quite busy; especially as we approach the

> simple yes or no is helpful! If you don't have the opportunity to respond
> this week, feel free to do so when it is convenient. I will share a
> summary of the responses in a later email to the group list. Also, I
