INTERPRETIVE NATURALIST SUPERVISOR 1*PARKS
$15.28-22.11/hour; $31,905-46,166/year

Applications accepted through Friday, March 17, 2000.  Current vacancy: Soudan Underground Mine State Park.  The eligible list will be used to fill vacancies at this location only.  You must be available to travel.  Code Job Location #016 and Travel on your application.

Oversee and direct the interpretive program at Soudan Underground Mine State Park and provide technical interpretive expertise for Hill Annex Mine State Park, emphasizing tightly-scheduled mine interpretive tours.  Supervise 8 to 9 mine interpreters and other tour support staff for Soudan Underground Mine State Park and provide consultative expertise to the park manager and 5 to 6 mine interpreters at Hill Annex Mine State Park.  Research, plan, develop, evaluate and maintain interpretive, environmental education, public relations, and employee development materials and related community partnerships for Soudan and assist with same at Hill Annex.

Selection process: pass/fail experience and training rating and scored oral examination 100%.  You must pass the following education and experience requirements to be admitted to the oral examination:

Education:

*       Natural and/or cultural resource-oriented courses, such as earth or environmental science; geology; ecology; zoology; botany; hydrology; physics; physical geography; natural resource management; and American history, anthropology and archaeology (at least 20 quarter/13 semester credits) AND
*       Communications, education and/or resource interpretation courses (at least 12 quarter/8 semester credits).
OR
Bachelor's or Master's degree(s) in natural or cultural resource management; biological, earth or environmental science; American history, anthropology or archaeology; speech-communications; education; park, business or public administration; or closely-related.

Experience:

Demonstrated accomplishments in (1) and (2) and one of (3), (4) or (5) below (NOTE: Experience will be evaluated based on how well it relates to the position described above):

1.      Developing and presenting a variety of interpretive programs and/or activities OR teaching a resource-related area (such as natural or cultural resource management; biological, earth or environmental science; or American history) in a formal educational setting.
2.      Providing leadership to others, including such tasks as planning, recruiting, hiring, scheduling, training, guiding, directing and evaluating.  (Include the numbers and functions of individuals for whom you were responsible and your role in successfully leading them.)
3.      Developing a variety of non-personal interpretive materials, such as exhibits and brochures.  (Include a written sample or a photo showing text.  Samples will not be returned.)
4.      Planning and implementing project(s) or program(s).  (Include a brief description of each project or program, your role and success level for each, and any challenges you overcame.)
5.      Planning and implementing customer, community and/or other organizational relations activities.  (Include a brief description of the activities and your role in performing them.)

Oral Examination: 100% final score.  If you meet the qualifying requirements above and are available for Job Location #016 and Travel, you will be evaluated by an oral interview panel on interpretive competence, supervisory and writing ability and other areas relevant to the position.
