Remember the other side of the equation in all of this are the
vulnerabilities of old structures and objects to concussion and vibration effects. This have
been few studies in my field except for some studies on the effects of
vibration of paintings in transit and studies on the effects of earthquakes on art
objects.

In modern homes and museums it is possible to mitigate the effects on
collections by storage and mounting techniques - but often in historic homes, where
period furnishing practices are followed as closely as possible and can be a
large part of the site interpretation, this is not always possible.

I think that it is possible to incorporate firing demonstrations
intelligently into the overall preservation of a site - and there have already been some
excellent suggestions about that.

The thing to remember in all of this is that the firing demonstrations are
ephemeral and the historic structure and it's contents are not.

Cheers!
Dave
