The Cultural Resource Management Program at the University of Victoria, British Columbia is pleased to offer the following learning opportunity for professionals and volunteers working in museums, art galleries, heritage sites, cultural centres and other non-profit organizations.

Please join us on-campus in November for:

Volunteer Management (HA 488M)

November 19 - 24, 2012; on-campus offering

Instructor: Lisa Mort-Putland

Volunteer programs in non-profit organizations are shifting to keep pace with changing demographics, increased organizational needs during a time of sustained economic scarcity, and new expectations from volunteers and communities of practice. Through focused readings, practical assignments, and field trips this course will help you enhance your skills and competencies to recruit, manage, and retain volunteers in museum and cultural heritage settings.

Through this course, you will:

. develop an understanding of the principals and practices that frame Volunteer Management Programs in Canada;
. discover tools and strategies to recruit, assess, place, retain, and evaluate volunteers;
. enhance your understanding of the emerging trends that are impacting volunteerism and the museum and heritage community; and
. come away with a "ready-to-implement" strategic guide for volunteer management.

Fee: Fee: CAD $693 (Canadian funds, credit and non-credit participation options) including a CAD$75 materials fee and a CAD$100 tuition/registration deposit is required with each registration form. The tuition balance of CAD$518 is due on or before the first day of the course. UVSS Fees will also be assessed to credit students only.

Registration deadline: October 22; late registrations accepted if space permits.
