CURATORIAL/MUSEUM SPECIALIST, SENIOR
Arizona State University Museum of Anthropology

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: For the Museum of Anthropology, coordinates
activities relating to producing and installing exhibits; plans, selects
objects, researches and designs museum exhibits and accompanying
publications. Conducts and/or coordinates research on museum objects in
order to catalog and document accurately and utilizes findings for
instructional and informational purposes. Opportunity to create exhibits
in own area of specialty. Produces web-based exhibits and activities.
Schedules, trains, and supervises student workers and volunteers;
coordinates with subcontractors. Identifies funding opportunities and
writes grant applications. Develops and oversees educational programs and
museum events, and handles inquiries from the general public. Teaches up
to one course per year within the Department of Anthropology for the
Museum anthropology program. Performs other duties delegated by museum
director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in Anthropology, Art History,
Museum Studies or related field AND one year museum curatorial and/or
registration experience; OR, Bachelor's degree in Anthropology, Art
History, Museum Studies or related field AND three years museum curatorial
and/or registration experience; OR, any equivalent combination of
experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and
abilities have been achieved.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in developing, managing and
implementing exhibit installation. Experience in developing budgets for
managing collections and exhibits. Demonstrated knowledge of: curation and
care of collections; curatorial standards; cataloguing, conserving,
accessioning and preserving museum collections. Experience in graphic
design production and web page design. Experience using desktop publishing
software such as Quark or PageMaker. Experience working in a team
environment and coordinating the work of others. Experience supervising
and training staff. Demonstrated knowledge of grant writing. Excellent
written and verbal communication skills. Master's degree preferred.

GENERAL INFORMATION: Applicant invited to interview may be required to
provide examples of their work such as a portfolio. The Museum of
Anthropology consists of two galleries in the heart of the Anthropology
Building, which is actively linked to a Museum Anthropology program and is
accessible to the general public. The Anthropology Department houses
collections of ethnographic objects, physical anthropology specimens and
casts, and Southwestern archaeological materials. The Museum Director is a
member of faculty.
