     to published works which discuss numbering procedures (I've read
     Dudley but it does not provide me with the information I need).

     I am especially interested in the following issues:
     1. numbering systems used in history museums
     2. the impact--if any--of automation upon numbering systems? (here I
     specially refer to object relationships rather than basic
     year-collection-primary object format, such as object components,
     objects in sets, objects found in other objects, objects permanently
     (or intended to be permanently) affixed to other objects (the infamous
     album + photographs case), an object that may be disassembled into
     many stand along objects (a sheet of stamps), etc.
     3. other than straight inventory purposes, are numbering systems used
     for any other "intentions," such as the intent of the owner/donor--how
     was the object(s)/components used; the intent of the maker--the way in
     which the object(s)/components were originally meant to be used; how
     the collector (museum, etc) intends to exhibit the object(s)/
     components?

     All comments are welcome, but I would love to get my hands on some
     detailed and well thought out published information regarding museum
     collections numbering.
