Museums of the Royal College of Surgeons of England

Trainee Conservator 

Salary:  £13,260 - £14,790 per annum  (depending upon experience)

The Royal College of Surgeons of England is an independent professional body
committed to promoting and advancing the highest standards of surgical care
for patients. The College houses four museums, two of which are open to the
public. They contain the MGC-designated Hunterian collection of anatomical
and pathological specimens, as well as other collections relating to
anatomy, pathology, natural history and the history of surgery.

A vacancy has arisen for a trainee conservator to assist the Head of the
Museums Conservation Unit in conserving the College's collections, with
particular reference to the conservation of historic and modern biological
spirit specimens.

You should hold a degree-level qualification relating to artefact
conservation, preferably with experience and/or interest in some of the
following: the handling/preparation of biological or anatomical specimens,
the conservation of historic spirit specimens, taxidermy, dissection and/or
histopathological specimen preparation. 

The post will initially be held on an eighteenth month contract, with
appointment to a permanent position subject to performance over the training
period.
