You might try contacting Bill Schurk,Sound Recording Archivist, Jerome
Library, Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, OH  43403
(419)372-2307.  That collection is the largest in the nation (except for
the Library of Congress) and has worked with all formats of recorded music
from Edison cylinders through the CD.  Bill surely has had to deal with the
sort of problem you have.
