                             Job Announcement

Job Title:                                Museum Digitization Technician
Job Location:                         BLM-Anasazi Heritage Center, Dolores,
CO
Salary:                                  $13.25 per hour

Employment Type:   Two full- time, temporary positions.  These are
grant-funded, contract positions through the San Juan Mountains
Association.  Each position is for 1600 hours of work.   Work must be
completed by 12/31/2006.  Successful candidates will be required to sign an
Independent Contractor's Agreement through the San Juan Mountains
Association.    These positions report to the Museum Curator and are
directly supervised by the Museum Specialist-ARGUS Systems Administrator.

Introduction:         This position is located at the BLM-Anasazi Heritage
Center (AHC), in Dolores, CO.  As a museum facility, the AHC reposits,
exhibits, and interprets archaeological resources removed from public lands
in the Four Corners region.  The collections are large and complex with
equally complex documentation, consisting of  historic and prehistoric
artifacts and documentation (photographic material, maps, notes, field
documentation, forms, and reports).

Scope of Position/Duties:
These positions are responsible for
      -           Photographic documentation, scanning, copying, printing
      and archiving of accessioned artifacts and documentation from the
      museum collection.
      -           Reviewing and following established best practices for
      handling, scanning, printing, and archiving historic and prehistoric
      artifacts and archives.
      -           Cataloging of collections into the AHC collections
      management database (ARGUS) and archival storage of collections.
      -           Managing project work flow to meet fixed deadlines
      -           Adherence to rules and procedure governing security,
      storage, and appropriate use and handling of all items in the
      collections

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in museum studies, anthropology or
related field is desired.   Working knowledge of systematic organization of
archaeological records or equivalent is required. A minimum of one year of
museum artifact handling, imaging, and digitization experience is desired.
This position requires knowledge of Windows-based computer systems, and
basic photography skills.
