Leslie,

When we have a packet of photos (from a single role of film), we would
give the group a single number, with decimals for each photo, so you can
track them individually if you ever need to, or create a separate
catalog listing for any that have different subject matter.

If you give them separate numbers, you just about have to have a catalog
entry for each, and, as you point out, the information will probably be
so much the same that it really doesn't warrant separate listings in the
catalog.

If, however, they have different photographers, (taking pictures at an
event for instance), you probably should use different catalog numbers.
