The Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums is seeking proposals for the next MAAM
annual meeting (Ocotber 11-15, 2003) in Newark, New Jersey.

The theme, "Museums Meet the Collaboration Challenge," is inspired by the
Peter F. Drucker Foundation's initiative, "The Collaboration Challenge," which
encourages organizations from all sectors (publc, private, and nonprofit) to
work collaboratively to enable their success in serving the public in the 21st
century.

Proposals can address this theme, but the program will support 101 and "hot
topic" sessions for historic sites, museums, archives, and libraries in the
Mid-Atlantic region. MAAM encourages anyone interested in participating in the
meeting to contact the MAAM offices at [log in to unmask]
Participation from small and/or community specific organizations is welcome!

For a brief description of the meeting theme, see below. For complete
information about the meeting including a program proposal form (very
streamlined) see http://www.altrue.net/site/midatlantic/content.php?

Call for Proposals
MAAM ANNUAL MEETING Newark, New Jersey • October 11–15, 2003

No one institution, nor for that matter, no one sector, has a monopoly on
ideas, solutions and strategies. Working together we can better clarify our
responsibilities and missions and advance the nation’s social agenda.
—Vartan Gregorian, President, Carnegie Corporation, New York

Museums collaborate—they partner with libraries, obtain support from
businesses, develop programs with schools and work collaboratively with other
nonprofits and government organizations. For many years, the relationships
between the private, public and nonprofit sectors were based on charitable
solutions. More recently, all three sectors have created relationships that
extend far beyond a grantor-grantee arrangement. And all three sectors benefit
from and understand that these relationships help the communities they seek to
engage and serve.
