Janice,
You could use "shoulder" screws or nails top & bottom. Just lay
a thin strip of wood, matte board or other material between the
bottom of the mirror and the hardware and the mirrors frame
should be fine. Also clear plastic tubing could be slipped over the
screw / nail. Hope this helps.
