While I cannot answer your question specifically, I do know that you
should be in luck in that Nylon (and the other *on products) are
tradenames of The Dupont Corporation. I also know that The Dupont Corp is
also VERY history Conscious operating among other things The Hagley Museum
outside of their Home town of Willmington, Delaware, USA.  I would be
surprised if someone there does not have easy access to your answer.

By the way we all know by now that Kleenex, Bandaid, and Ketchup are brand
names. I used to suspect that there are others that we REALLY forgt were
brand names. Nylon is one of these. My other favorites are The Zipper,
Cellophane, Dri Ice, and Escalator.
