Our museum does a science demonstration on the physics of ball game sports.
During the program we use a medicine ball which is large leather ball about
14 " in diameter that is extremely heavy for it's size. Several visitors
have asked the following questions regarding it:

How did the medicine ball get its name?

What country originated it?

Was it ever used in a real ball game? If so, what were the rules of the game?

I would appreciate it if any of you out there know the answers or can
direct me to where I can find them?
