Adrienne,
To me the Vietnam War memorial in Washington DC has shown any
and all who have been there that the best, most effective, and
compassionate memorial or remembrance is to identify those who died.
One exception might be the memorial in Washington of the raising of
the flag at Iwo Jima because it was such an exceptional sight.
Another example, and in fact a true memorial is the cemetery in Verdun
France. The endless crosses of the dead bring home the very point of
the memorial: to remember what happened there and to never forget.

How to do something along this concept in a museum is a real
challenge.

As an aside, the last month I spent in Korea in 1952 was as liaison
officer from the 1st Marine regiment to the Canadian Brigade. I met
some very fine men there and reflect often on that brief and
interesting assignment.
