Registrar (20 hrs/week) — John Q. Adams Center for the History of 
Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery, American Academy of 
Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery Foundation, Alexandria, VA

Small medical museum seeks a PT registrar for diverse collection. The registrar 
reports to the Director, John Q. Adams Center for the History of 
Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in museum studies or related field preferred.  Minimum of a BA 
required.  At least 2 years related professional experience.  Previous 
experience with diverse museum collections.  Experience with cataloging and 
electronic databases.  Ability to work independently and complete work 
successfully with minimal supervision.  Excellent oral and written 
communication skills.  Background in history or science of medicine a plus, as 
is a background in museum education.

Key Responsibilities

·	Process and catalog incoming donations
·	Determine conservation and storage needs for museum collection
·	Administer collections management database

Specific Duties

·	Oversee the cataloging of all museum materials in the Vernon 
Systems COLLECTION database.
·	Ensure proper housing of items in museum collection.
·	Serve as staff and public contact answering research questions 
related to the historical collections.
·	Evaluate the museum collection for conservation needs.
·	Assist in the development of strategies for increasing public access 
to collections; this includes, but is not limited to, the development of 
educational programs for members and/or the public.
·	Solicit donations.
·	Assist in the development of exhibits and monitor the storage areas.
·	Must be able to lift 35 lbs.
·	Occasional flexibility with schedule required.
·	May participate on an internal team, either through formal 
assignment, or on an ad hoc basis.
·	Consistently demonstrate courteous, cooperative and helpful 
behavior to all contacts, internal and external.
·	Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at any 
time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either orally or in 
writing.
