9:30 - 4:30 WORKSHOP: ADVANCED MANAGEMENT OF PHOTOGRAPH COLLECTIONS
This workshop will cover the administration of photograph collections as
well as photographic media within archival and manuscript collections.

9:00-10:15 KEYNOTE PRESENTATION - Gerald Herman, Northeastern University
The speaker will discuss the meaning of visual literacy and the
importance of still and moving image materials for archivists, curators,
and librarians whose collections document the contemporary cultural
landscape and who provide researchers with access to original source
material.
 
10:30-3:30 WORKSHOP: PRESERVATION OF ARCHIVAL MOVING IMAGE MATERIAL
The focus will be on preservation, including the history and technology
of film and videotape media, the equipment necessary to deal with such
collections, the preservation problems likely to be encountered, and
solutions to these problems.
 
10:30-12:15 CONCURRENT MORNING SESSIONS
1. COLLECTIONS MANAGEMENT
This session will address a range of collections management issues
relating to moving image materials, including collection policies,
successful management of "mixed media" collections, and satisfying the
needs of possibly divergent user groups.
2.  LEGAL ISSUES
What are the legal issues that face curators when they collect moving
image materials and provide access to them?  How can curators and
producers improve their interactions regarding access, copyright, and
clearances for films and videotapes?

2:00 - 3:30     CONCURRENT AFTERNOON SESSIONS
3.  MOVING IMAGE MATERIALS ROUNDTABLE
Discussion will focus on the concerns of archivists, curators, and
librarians at the national and local levels, including the role of AMIA
and NEA.
4.  DESCRIPTIVE ACCESS
This session will address the following questions: How does one provide
descriptive control and access for moving image materials?  What are the
possibilities for creating local, in-house systems?  What are the roles
of institutional and national bibliographic databases for providing
access to moving image materials?
 
ASSOCIATION OF MOVING IMAGE ARCHIVISTS ANNUAL MEETING
NEA's Fall 1994 Meeting is being held in conjunction with the
Association of Moving Image Archivists (AMIA) annual meeting which will
take place at the Omni Parker House, November 15th-19th.  All AMIA
sessions will be open for NEA members to attend by registering at the
AMIA members' registration fee.  For additional information on
