I would like to post the following information about internships at the
Chester County Historical Society for 2005. Thanks.

The Chester County Historical Society is offering internships funded by the
Institute of Museum and Library Services in practical collections management
in each of the three sections of the collections department - the museum,
library, and photo archives - with the goal of making these collections
records more publicly accessible through an electronic medium. Data entry
into collections management database software will be a primary task but
activities may also include object cataloging, manuscript processing,
primary research, object handling and re-housing. Preferred applicants will
be working toward an MA or MLS in history, art history, museum studies,
library science, archives management or related field with an interest in
working with museum, special library, manuscript or photograph collections.
Attention to detail and flexibility are important as is the ability to work
with a variety of people.

There are three internships available during the Spring 2005 semester, three
in Summer 2005 and three during the Fall 2005 semester. The Spring and Fall
2005 semester internships are paid part-time for a total of 140 hours. The
Summer 2005 internships are paid full-time for up to 420 hours. All
internships are $12/hour. To apply, send a cover letter with a statement of
interest that also includes the area of collections to which you are
applying and for which time period, resume and three references to: Ellen
Endslow, Director of Collections/Curator, Chester County Historical Society,
225 N. High Street, West Chester, PA 19380.

The Chester County Historical Society has been collecting objects relating
to the history of the region since 1893. The collections currently consist
of more than 70,000 museum objects, a library with 25,000 reference volumes
and 500,000 manuscripts, and over 70,000 images in the photoarchives. The
society benefits from the resources of its location in the Delaware River
Valley and its proximity to Philadelphia. More information about the
institution is available at http://www.chestercohistorical.org
