I am somewhat disturbed that my left-handedness would be considered a
disorder. As a lefty who attended Yale, I can testify that there was a much
higher percentage of lefties there than anywhere else I've ever been; my
southpaw Harvard friend observed the same at that school. Many of us
considered our ability to use either hand as a real advantage, albeit one
that was needed for simple survival in a world biased against us. As Yale
used SAT scores as an important gauge in admissions, it would seem that
reading problems are not a factor for all lefties. Of course, I've never
been anywhere where it was harder to find a desk for a leftie, almost as
hard as it was to find a woman's bathroom.
