Department Head, Photographs, New York

For our internationally renowned auction house client, we are seeking a
Department Head of Photographs for the New York office.  The successful
candidate will act as the primary business-getter for department, with
focus on high-value property and developing long-term client
relationships; develop relationships with collectors, museums and
curatorial staff; work with senior management to manage and review
specialist staff; work with the business manager and senior management
to develop long-term business strategy for the department, review
administrative staff, set sales budgets, control costs and maintain
profitability; assist in developing a marketing strategy for the
department; write and prepare catalogue essays; other duties as
assigned. The ideal applicant will have a BA in Art History or
Decorative Arts, M.A preferred; significant expertise in the field of
photography, with an emphasis in work from 1900-1950; a minimum of 10
years paid work experience in an art gallery or auction house; and
excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. Attractive and
