The Tech Museum of Innovation
Part-Time Position Available
IS Assistant


The mission of The Tech Museum of Innovation is to serve as an educational
resource that engages people of all ages and backgrounds in exploring and
experiencing technologies affecting their lives, and to inspire young
people to become innovators in developing technologies of the future.

The IS Assistant is responsible for assisting the MIS Manager with the
research, acquisition, and installation of networking software and hardware
and maintaining The Tech's multi-platform networking environment.  The IS
Assistant is a temporary, non-exempt position reporting to the MIS Manager.
 Two openings are available.

Responsibilities:
* Analyze existing user hardware, compile listing.
* Assist with the maintenance of organization's software inventory.
* Upgrade operating system software when necessary.
* Install systems and applications software.
* Install hardware.
* Test hardware and software.
* Train staff members on how to use various software on network (e-mail,
Netscape, calendar program, etc.)
* Troubleshoot hardware and software problems.
* Perform network and system administration for a variety of servers in a
multi-platform  environment (e.g. mail, calendar, etc.)
* Provide technical support for staff.
* Coordinate network administration tasks with Engineering as network
architecture and topology evolves.

Requirements:
* In-depth knowledge of operating systems:  DOS, Windows, Macintosh, UNIX
* In-depth knowledge of PC, Macintosh and UNIX hardware
* Previous experience with hardware and software installation and
troubleshooting
* Experience with Novell IntraNetware, and TCP/IP protocols and systems
including DNS, NIS, SMTP, POP3, etc.
* Excellent communication skills, customer-service oriented

Hours:  Approximately 20 - 25 hours per week
Salary:  Commensurate with experience
