MEET BETH TISCHLER!

I hold a BFA in Musical Theater from a
semi-conservatory in Philadelphia. I have been a
successful, working actress for a year and a half, but
I need a lifestyle that is a bit more stable (any sort
of steady paycheck is more stable than theater).

I chose a museum career (I know, not stable)
originally because I am fascinated by every subject
imaginable and have always loved museums and have a
need to be part
of an institution. I narrowed it down to American
History and Collections Manager after speaking to lots
of people in the Philadelphia museum world.

I am taking undergrad courses in History at Rutgers to
supplement my BFA. I applied to MA programs --
Winterthur, UDel for American History (and I would get
certificate in Museum Studies there as well), Temple
for Public History, and Rutgers for Public History.
In addition, I also asssistant curated for a SMALL
exhibit on the history of Cherry Hill, NJ (my town)
which gave me good experience.

I am looking around at what i can do now to gain
experience, such as volunteering/internships, etc. in
Philly museums.

I still feel as if i'm floating a little, but I think
that getting a volunteer position or internship will
help me accustom myself to the museum field.
