Description of Evaluator Role on
"Mapping the Soul" Hughes Foundation Project
Museum of Science, Boston



     An evaluator is needed to work with the Museum of Science's Science Theater
staff in developing and implementing an evaluation of the 30-minute play
production, Mapping the Soul. The evaluation project would begin in January 1998
and end by September 1998. We are looking for qualitative and quantitative
methodology to be employed with the goal of using the data collected to inform
the creation a second play on biotechnology and genetics. The evaluation will
focus on the medium of theatre and its methods in the case of the current
production in order to build a new play.

     The evaluator would be expected to direct the creation of instruments for
data collection and lead focus groups; become familiar with the play; make a
number of observations (not less than 5); and talk with students and teachers.
The evaluator would compile the report and provide analysis.

     For budgetary reasons, the evaluator needs to be from or available in the
New England area.
