ASSOCIATE EXHIBITION DESIGNER

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, one of the world's finest museums, seeks an Associate Exhibition Designer to work in our Design Department. The Associate Exhibition Designer will participate in the Islamic Gallery Renovation, and will report to the Project Exhibition Designer and Chief Designer. This person will meet with curators and designers in planning discussions and concept development for the renovation of the Islamic Art Galleries. In addition, this position is responsible for coordinating with Design and Curatorial Departments and Buildings or Construction Departments to track the progress of the project; ensuring that deadlines and schedules are met; keeping the designers apprised of the project status; and ensuring that design implementation meets the Museum's standards. Other duties include preparing design document drawings, floor plans, detail drawings, case lists or schedules for internal museum reviews, and construction bid documents; preparing sketches or presentation drawings for review by Chief Designer, Project Exhibition Designer, or curators when appropriate; and constructing simple display models or mock ups for review and coordinate fabrication with in-house or outside model makers when needed.

Successful candidates must possess at least 3-5 years of museum exhibition design or industrial design experience. This person will have full knowledge of construction techniques, fabrication skills, materials and project management; executed examples of Vector Works drafting skills; experience and/or knowledge of proper art handling procedures, and art or object installation and display experience; as well as strong organizational skills. The candidate must also have proficiency in Vector Works, AutoCad and other drafting programs, PhotoShop, Quark, Excel and Word; as well as a portfolio or CD and actual examples of drafting and design sketches.
