COMPUTING RESOURCE MANAGER
(Salary Range:  $4,142 - $7,450)


Description:

Under the general supervision of the director and in coordination with the
UCLA School of Art and Architecture's computing support coordinator, manage
the computing environment for the UCLA Hammer Museum, which includes the
Grunwald Center for the Graphic Arts. Work with senior staff to develop
overall technology plan for the museum. Plan and implement LAN technology
and software applications. Act as Museum's representative to university
academic/scholarly community, campus computing support groups, industry
vendors and support personnel. In conjunction with director and senior
museum staff, manage computing budget and expenses. Manage the
network-operating environment and install, upgrade and track all
departmental hardware and software. Maintain and support the local area
network (LAN) and 40 workstations, as well as a digital archive of the
museum collections.  Develop user support methodologies and training
systems. Support and maintain network, computers and peripheral equipment as
well as software packages. Implement digitalization of museum's collections
and electronic collections catalogue. Implement and maintain museum's
Internet presence (website). Consult with director, senior museum and School
staff on long-range computing issues. Implement all new technical
enhancements and central computing processing features and applications.
Prepare and maintain all related technical and user documentation.
Troubleshoot all systems and equipment and provide system maintenance.
Familiarity with the arts, with particular emphasis on the visual arts, is
preferred.

Qualifications:

Demonstrated skill and experience required in completing strategic long-term
administrative computing plans. Ability and experience in guiding staff to
adopt standard MIS practices and to establish or modify new and existing
policies and procedures. Ability to work effectively while dealing with
concurrent and potentially conflicting projects and independently reevaluate
priorities, as well as, lead and implement planned system project efforts
with little technical supervision. Working knowledge of Novell Netware
software and Ethernet LAN's utilizing IBM PC and PS/2 hardware (computers
and peripherals) operating system software and variety of vendor
microcomputer application software including, but not limited to Microsoft
Word, Excel, Aldus PageMaker, Access, electronic mail packages for LAN
systems. Knowledge of UNIX operating system and other UNIX variants, online
public access computers (such as the university's ORION, ORION2, and MELVYL)
and advanced database sites. Programming skills for mainframe systems in TS
and CICS environments, DOS and NETWARE PC based environments in C, C++, and
various database applications (including SQL, FOXPRO, ACCESS, Clipper,
etc.). Experience and skill in systems analysis, as well as ability to
correctly consider technical restraints while meeting user requirements.
Demonstrated skills in diagnosing wide range of hardware/software-related
problems, recommending sound and efficient solutions and following up as
necessary. General understanding of the Internet and the Web, especially as
it relates to presenting arts-related content and awareness of newest Web
design software packages. Ability to evaluate and recommend long-term
software strategies. Ability to maintain and upgrade Web servers over a
sustained period of time. Ability to create complex Web databases necessary
to make large bodies of material accessible on a Web site, as well as work
efficiently with content-oriented staff members. Sound interpersonal skills
to establish and maintain positive working relationships with users and
co-workers, as well as skills to lead work groups toward resolution when
there are divergent points of view. Demonstrated skills and confidence in
public speaking to sufficiently provide training and consulting services to
a wide range of, primarily, non-technical users at various levels in the
organization. Skills in preparing professional and grammatically correct
documentation. Applicant will report regularly to the director on technology
issues as they relate to budget and content development (exhibitions and
programming) for the Museum.
