Blame it on the Sensations exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum and Mayor Giuliani.

Hi Everyone,

I had an interesting discussion yesterday with a group of 25 New York City
public school teachers. They were telling me that it is very hard for them
to find the time to get to visit museums. I suggested that they might try
to review museum resources on the Internet and was told the following
astonishing fact (?): The NYC Board of Education has put up firewalls
against museum Web sites. According to this group of teachers, it seems
the B of Ed. doesn't want students to have the liberty to access museum Web
sites because they might contain things that are so-called inappropriate
for children. Has anyone else heard this? Is this happening in other
communities? If this is the case, this obviously has serious implications
for museums.
