I would have thought it was absolutely appropriate to acknowledge
volunteers who have died, especially if they were current volunteers and
had contributed to the museum over a period of time. Our Docent
Co-ordinator (a volunteer) died suddenly a couple of years ago and it
was a huge shock for staff and volunteers alike. We certainly celebrated
her life and contribution through museum publications, etc. and it was
most appropriate that we did.

I cannot imagine why you are opposed to obituaries in the membership
magazine, it would be totally appropriate to do so. The issue of
people's "loved ones" is a different matter entirely and I would agree
that it would not be appropriate unless the "loved one" was also a
friend/supporter of the museum perhaps?

Subject: Volunteer Deaths

We have had several volunteers pass away in the past year. Several
people want to do an "obits" section in our museum membership magazine.
This magazine is mailed out to all of the members of the museum. I am
opposed to doing this in our Membership Magazine. I am also worried
that some folks will be upset that we did not do this for their loved
ones when they passed away. Is there anyone that has faced this
situation in the past that can offer some advice?
