Did you hear the news? On 7 Oct 1995 20:45:08 -0400, our ether buddy
[log in to unmask] (PyroVolley) spaketh thusly:

:)Can anyone point me in the direction of some information on the net about
:)archiving work? You know the people who do the dirt work at musuems in the
:)basement?? :)

Hello!

I don't think archiving *has* to be grunt work - it's just a matter of
applying current technology to eliminate a lot of the manual
cataloging and checking.

As an example - if you're ready to put your clipboard and pencil away
- you might like to visit our web site and download a working trial
version of SPCS PrimaBase(R) - a relational database management system
for Windows that uniquely offers integrated barcode support and
printing. Stores barcode items in their inventory - a museum can do
the same without destroying the piece being cataloged or inventoried.

SPCS PrimaBase(R) is free-form, fully relational, easy to set up and
operate and fast. It operates on a 286 w/1MB RAM (NSTL verified) and
flies on a 386. That's what we use in-house (no 486s or Pentiums) and
I have more than half a million records flying through it. Full
install space is about 2MB - not less powerful just tight code! And
that means you can easily place in a laptop, hook a scanner wand to it
and do your inventory procedures automatically.

And yes, you *can* print barcodes with the trial version. SPCS
PrimaBase prints and supports: Full ASCII Code 39, Code 128,
Interleaved 2 of 5, UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN-8, EAN-13 and US Postnet with
Delivery Point. Single station and network versions supporting from 5
to 32 concurrently operating nodes are available. The trial version is
network ready for 1-4 concurrently operating nodes.

If you have any questions, please feel free to write.

Good luck in your quest!

Best, Mac
