Beyond Change: Creating New Futures

1996 Canadian Museums Association Annual Conference, June 15-18, 1996
Robson Square Conference Centre, Vancouver, British Columbia

What does the future hold for you and your institution? Come and decide
for yourself at the Canadian Museums Association annual conference, June
15-18, in Vancouver. To stimulate you to take an imaginative leap into
the 21st century, a variety of lectures, workshops, panels, and
performances have been planned around three interrelated themes--the
future, communications, and technology. Titles of sessions include The
Future Is Not What It Used to Be, The Museum in the Gold Fish Bowl, The
New Museology and All That Jazz, The Object on Trial, Oh Heck, Hi
Tech--Upsides and Down of Mass Media and Technology. An Electronic
Cafe will offer you the opportunity to explore some creative uses of
technology in museums. An extraordinary line up of speakers will
challenge and entertain you--amongst them writer and philosopher John
Ralston Saul (author of The Doubter's Companion), Globe and Mail
journalist Bronwyn Drainie, CBC radio celebrity Marg Meikle, Canadian
playwright, journalist, writer John Gray, and CMA Fellow Duncan Cameron.
Along with some thoughtful discussion and presentations, you will have
opportunity to explore Vancouver's hot and wet spots, both natural and
cultural. (The Robson Square Conference Centre is in the heart of
downtown Vancouver, adjoining the Vancouver Art Gallery, and close to the
Vancouver Aquarium in Stanley Park, Chinatown, Science World, Gastown,
Granville Market, etc.).

For registration information contact the CMA office at 613-567-0099 (tel)
or 613-233-5438 (fax).
