Detroit Historical Museums
2004 Graduate Fellowship in Historic Site Supervision

Objective: To insure professional quality of historic site interpretation at Historic Fort Wayne.

Principle Duties: 1) Coordinate and give tours of Historic Fort Wayne; 2) Write a short 6-10 page research paper for inclusion in our teacher's pre-visit packet.

Form of Payment: Stipend paid in monthly installments of $500 and a project completion payment of $2000.

Days and Hours of Employment: Averages two days per week (9 am to 5 pm) plus your research time. Mid-April through the end of May Tuesdays and Thursdays. Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend Saturdays and Sundays. September through October, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Some weekday meetings and prep time will be required. Your research time is additional to the set schedule above.


Emergency Absences: Between Memorial Day Weekend and Labor Day Weekend incumbent must work each and every Saturday and Sunday. In case of a family emergency, the incumbent and the coordinator of events are responsible for completing each other's duties.

Work Site: Unless otherwise assigned, work will be conducted at Historic Fort Wayne.

Appropriate Dress: While at Detroit Historical Museum, professional or casual business dress is expected. While at Historic Fort Wayne, clean and neat casual business  or 'dress down' clothing. Or uniform as assigned.


Requirements: Completion of some work towards masters degree in historic preservation, museum studies, history, education, or related field.

Preferred: Spanish fluency. Completion of masters degree. Some experience interpreting museums and historic sites.
