CURATOR OF EXHIBITIONS. (Contemporary American Art). The John Michael Kohler
Arts Center, an innovative visual and performing arts complex focusing on
contemporary art, is seeking an experienced curator who will develop
original thematic and solo exhibitions; write materials for wall panels,
publications, related grants, etc.; undertake speaking engagements; and
collaborate with other departments. With the majority of its exhibitions
curated in-house, the John Michael Kohler Arts Center offers an exciting
opportunity to develop and implement novel projects. Candidates must be
familiar with emerging artists and directions in the breadth of contemporary
American art, and have noteworthy curatorial experience. The ability to
produce excellent critical writing for catalogues and other interpretive
materials is also required. Qualified candidates must have honed public
speaking skills, strong organizational and social skills, as well as the
capacity to collaborate with other curators and staff in other departments,
artists, lenders, and volunteers. An MA in art history or related field plus
a minimum of five years curatorial experience is preferred. Salary and title
will be commensurate with capabilities.

Located on the western shore of Lake Michigan less than one hour north of
Milwaukee and 2 ½ hours from Chicago, Sheboygan has been named one of the
most livable cities in the U.S. by national magazines. The Arts Center is
acclaimed for its unique exhibitions, collection of the work of self-taught
artists, Arts/Industry long-term residency program at a nearby manufacturer,
performing arts and education programs, and Connecting Communities
commissions. With a skilled full-time staff of 40 and a $3.5 million budget,
it reaches local, regional, and national constituencies.

Send vitae, curatorial record, list of references, and examples of critical
writings on contemporary American art or related topics to: Manager-Human
Resources, John Michael Kohler Arts Center, 608 New York Avenue, Sheboygan,
WI 53081. www.jmkac.org EOE.
