I just started one a few weeks ago:

http://mckinleycurator.blogspot.com/

I went to a conference in September and attended a
workshop about blogs, MySpace, etc. From what we
learned there, more and more museums are doing this.
It only takes 10 minutes for me to enter information
-- it provides us with a [free!] way to re-cap events
immediately, in between our newsletter which is only
published 5 times a year. Plus it is a way to let
people know what's coming up, what's going on
behind-the-scenes, etc.

We just met with our website people this week about
adding a link to the blog. So I can't speak about
numbers just yet. But I think it is a great way to
connect with younger audiences, and to provide an
interactive communication forum with our visitors.

I wrote an article about the blog for our next
newsletter, and will be producing a flyer for inside
our building to get the word out about it.

Blogger is super easy -- you can add photos and even
videos, create lists on a sidebar (I used it to list
our upcoming events and staff), and get feedback
(still low for us, but right now very few people know
about it!).

The woman who spoke to us said that every department
in the museum could have their own blog, or it could
be an extension of PR and Marketing.

So far it has been a lot of fun!

Kim
