Events Manager

The mission of The Tech Museum of Innovation is to serve as an educational
resource that engages people of all ages and backgrounds in exploring and
experiencing technologies affecting their lives, and to inspire young people
to become innovators in developing technologies of the future.

The Events Manager is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the Campaign
Director.  The Events Manager oversees all activities related to development
events, including the Innovation Awards Dinner, the Gizmo WYSIWYG, Inventing
the Future, Leadership Circle and Membership cultivation events, and other
event activities to support the capital campaign and annual fund for education.

The Events Manager is involved from strategic planning to implementation to
produce successful events involving individuals and companies in The Tech.
This includes developing themes supporting the mission of The Tech, preparing
time lines and budgets, working with volunteers, developing resources for
in-kind support, carrying out all details of event production, and providing
reports and evaluation for each project.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
*Be knowledgeable of The Tech's mission, exhibits, programs and long-range
plans and stay current with the functioning of the entire institution.
*Plan and implement the annual Innovation Awards Dinner honoring Tech
contributors and Silicon Valley leaders.
*Plan and implement the annual Gizmo WYSIWYG auction of esoteric, unusual
and exotic technology related items and destinations.
*Coordinate activity for the above events with the Development Department
to achieve and surpass fundraising goals.
*Organize and coordinate at least one and sometimes two annual Inventing
the Future evenings involving Silicon Valley and world leaders, as cultivation
for campaign and annual fund objectives.
*Plan and implement a series of Leadership Circle events with the Individual
Gifts Manager.
*Plan and implement a series of Membership events with the Membership
Associate.
*Organize cultivation events as needed to involve community leaders in the
life of The Tech.
*Provide planning and tracking documents for each event to ensure Development
Department coordination of events with solicitations and to provide clear
communication with other departments throughout the Museum.
*Coordinate systems for tracking event activity and involvement of high level
community volunteers in event development.
*Assist in writing agendas and arranging meetings with volunteers and staff
to plan special events.
*Strategize on sponsorship opportunities for events and seek in-kind support
from companies and individuals to offset costs.
*Work with internal designers or contract with outside design firms to
develop invitations, programs, and collateral material for each event
consistent with the design standards of The Tech.
*Coordinate with the Marketing Department to publicize and celebrate events
through media releases, Innovations newsletters, and other means to increase
public awareness of The Tech.
*Maintain a calendar of important events at The Tech for distribution to the
Board of Directors, staff and volunteers.
*Prepare monthly reports on event progress for review with Development Staff
and the Management Team.
*Evaluate events on a timely basis and make recommendations for improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS:
*Bachelor's degree or equivalent
*Three years of event planning experience, preferably with a Development office
*Experience with managing budgets, organizing details, and juggling multiple
priorities
*Excellent written and oral communication skills
*Ability to work independently and creatively while functioning as part of
the development and overall Museum team
*Appreciation of the educational mission of The Tech
*Ability to work with highly confidential information in a fast-paced
environment
*Computer experience required:  IBM PC, DOS, Windows; Mac literacy also a plus
*Willingness to work on weekends occasionally and evenings when required
