One small correction: the Museum Security Network is, like Gayle's on
line activities, a completely free service and absolutely non-
commercial. There are no sponsors, it is being paid for from private
funds, and both mailinglists - Cultural Property Protection Net
Mailinglist, and Museum Security Network Mailinglist - are moderated
in private time.

There is one great advantage in moderating a mailinglist (see the
recent threads on this non-moderated Museum-L), and one major
drawback: it takes a lot of time, and the moderator finds him/herself
in an undemocratic decisive role about mailings that go through to
the list.

Those who were already on the Museum Security Network Mailinglist
before the war in Iraq started will remember why I decided to make
the lists moderated ones.

As for Gayle's postings: most of the time I skip those because I am
on Museum-L to read expert opinions, and not private opinions about
all kinds of matters. Still, I do not mind the above average (in
quantity) postings by Gayle. Denying people to express their opinions
is a lot worse than ignoring opinions one is not interested in.

Still, all 2500 plus subscribers on Museum-L must realize that they
are responsible for the quality of the list, and must be attentive
not to make this list another Hide Park Speakers' Corner.
