Technical Information Service (TIS) of AAM announces:

Standards Manual for Signs and Labels. Everyone benefits from carefully
desinged and produced signs and labels.

This easy to use, illustrated manual identifies the basic elements of all
types of museum signage, including large orientation and directional signs
and plaques plus wall, case, floor, panel and freestanding labels, and
suggests accessibility standards for each element.

The standards address the needs of wheelchair users, the visually impaired,
and those with low reading comprehension and limited mobility. Standards for
type size and typeface, spacing, contrast, medium, installation and lighting
are suggested. The manual also contains guidelines for comprehension, use of
symbols, The Metropolitan Museum of Art's sign and label production sequence,
a glossary and federal regulations for signs. Originally produced by The
Metropolitan Museum of Art and reprinted by TIS for its Professional Practice
Series.
