The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has an opening for a
visiting collections manager for the Laubin collection of Native
American material culture. The position is for one year beginning June
1, 1997 or as soon thereafter as possible. Responsibilities include
development of a program for an exhibition of the Laubin materials;
consultation with experts in computer design to provide an interface
with information about the collection for museum visitors; implementing
policies regarding examination of the collections; overseeing proper
curation and storage; collections documentation; supervision of student
assistants; participation in NAGPRA compliance. The collections manager
will report directly to Dr. Douglas Brewer, Director of the Spurlock
Museum of World Cultures and will consult regularly with members of the
Spurlock Exhibit Design and Planning Committee and Native American
consultants. Qualifications include an MA in Museology, Native American
Studies or a related field. Equivalent experience may be substituted for
a formal degree. Master's candidates who have completed all requirements
for their degree except the qualifying internship can apply for
consideration for the position as an intern. Salary will be commensurate
with qualifications and experience starting at $20,000. Please send
