DUTIES:  Assists with the acquisition, organization and care of the
National Museum of American art (NMAA) image collections through
circulation and reference.  Assists in the development of the
collections through purchase, donation, or exchange based on
quality and appropriateness of the materials to research resources.
Performs research on proposed acquisitions.  Compiles raw data,
searches publication sources and maintains records.  Performs
technical duties in connection with overseeing the care and
preservation of the images including masking and mounting materials
according to preservation standards.  Recommends changes in storage
environment or methods as new preservation research becomes
available.  Provides reference assistance to visiting researchers.
Assists researchers in locating specific images by artist, theme,
collection or other access points.  Suggests other specialized
research resources to answer queries.  Assists with promotion of
and access to the image collections, using a variety of relevant
print and electronic formats.
 
Selective Factor:
   1. Knowledge of art history.
 
Quality Ranking Factors:
    1. Ability to respond to public inquiries in a variety of
formats.
    2. Knowledge of computer applications
    3. Knowledge of organization or management of libraries or
visual         resource collections.
