The Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History (NMAH), Behring Center, seeks an Education
Specialist for "America on the Move," a new exhibition on transportation in American life opening in
November 2003. Responsibilities include assisting in the development and implementation of school
programs, curriculum materials, teachers’ workshops, electronic classrooms, Web activities, adult
programs, and exhibit interactives. Qualified candidates will have experience and demonstrated skills in
these areas. A master’s degree in museum education, museum studies, American studies, history, or a
related field is preferred. This is a non-federal appointment, not exceeding three years. Salary range:
from $34,451 to $44,783. Must-have criteria: 1.) knowledge of museum education principles and
methods; 2.) ability to write informational texts for diverse products; 3.) ability to communicate orally with
varied audiences. Desirable criteria: 1.) ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously; 2.) ability to
work collaboratively in a team environment. Applicants are urged to address these criteria in a separate
