Please share all of your responses with the list! I'm sure we're all
interested in this one!

We routinely have tours of 45-50 school children at a time. We use folding
chairs in a meeting room upstairs, and sturdy old chairs and benches (not
necessarily historic) from the kitchen and lock tender's office downstairs.
The children are divided into 4 groups. One group starts upstairs, one
downstairs, one outside at the canal lock, and the final group starts on the
nature/historical trail. At regular intervals, the groups progress to the
next area. In this way we can accommodate two full classes of students in
two hours, using 4 docents.

Our biggest issue is that we show a video introduction to the Susquehanna &
Tidewater Canal as part of our tour. In order to meet ADA standards we have
to have TV/VCRs on both floors. The upstairs unit is in a "meeting room" so
esthetics aren't a big issue, but I'd like to be able to find a discreet
place for the one downstairs. The big issue is getting the thing high enough
so that everyone can see. I've recently received permission from our
Historical Trust to mount it on a "wall bracket/arm" but if anyone has any
other great ideas, send them along too.

Subject: seating in historic house museums

Hello Listers. I am interested in your opinions and experience with
providing/not providing seating on historic house tours. Thanks.
