Stephen Jay Gould has an excellent essay on creationism (I'll find the
reference if anyone is interested) where he makes the point that evolution
is not a theory, it is a fact more than amply supported by the billions of
easily-dated fossils embedded in rocks around the world.

Darwin's theory of natural selection is simply one very good explanation of
why evolution happened. We may debate Darwin, but we can't deny the
fossils.
